Tucker Hacking Scholarship Fund

On Sunday, January 29th, 2012, we all lost a pretty amazing person, Tucker Hacking.  He was an awesome instructor, a fearless skateboarder and friend (THacks), and a great son.  Through simply being Tucker, he made an indelible impact on all of our lives.

At his family’s request, we will be starting a program fund in Tucker’s name, The Tucker Hacking Just Have Fun Scholarship FundThis fund will be run through our non-profit arm, PLAY-WELL OUTREACH.

These funds will be used to offer LEGO Engineering programs to students who would not otherwise have the opportunity to take these classes.  We hope that Tucker’s legacy of generosity, fun, and learning lives on through each student who receives a scholarship through this fund.

We were extremely blessed to have Tucker be a part of Play-Well and one of the ways we will best remember him is in his own words.  We have provided the bio below that he gave us when he first started with our organization.

Tucker Hacking

“What would you like us to know about you?
Current college student. Interested in the outdoors, different lifestyles and cultures; I love “the environment”. I also enjoy learning how things work, from a motorized bicycle to a tsunami. I have worked with children building legos, making sure they are participating in  the classroom writing activities, umpiring baseball games, and coaching sports. I have also worked in a skateboard shoe store, surf shop, and in an office involved in the outdoor clothing industry. I love pushing my physical limitations from how far I can run to how big of a wave I can bomb down. I love relaxing environments such as watching a sunset at the beach, as well as stressful one’s like a lego classroom.
What are some of your life goals?
My main goal in life is to be a surf instructor in the Mentawais Islands. Although this is a very distant goal, another one closer to reality would be for me to become an owner of a fortune 500 company or an 8th grade history teacher. I would like to travel and see what Europe is like. I also would like to spend some time in West Africa along the coast and witness some of the worlds natural beauties.
What are you most passionate about?
I do love helping people, and understanding different personalities. I love teaching others the things/ life lessons I have learned along my crazy life journey. I have found that the key to life is accepting different social/ cultural  characteristics.
Is there anything else you’d like us to include in your bio?
What a cool job I have!  I am so glad to be working with Legos, working with kids, and be in an engaged and dynamic environment for a living.

We will miss you very much Tucker.
